Positioned as a pivotal step forward, the Retroid Pocket 2 was designed to refine Retroid’s early concept into a more practical daily-use system. Introduced in the same 2020 timeframe as the original model, its horizontal layout improved comfort and control, making longer sessions more viable. The device is known for striking a better balance between emulation capability, familiar gamepad ergonomics, and visual nostalgia. While still limited in overall performance headroom, these improvements positioned the system as Retroid’s first broadly successful and cohesive handheld.
